Obama Offers New Hope to America’s Most Disadvantaged

If you are a resident of San Antonio, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Southeastern Kentucky, or the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma you will become the target of new anti-poverty measures by President Obama, according to The New York Times.

President Obama said the measures, which were first promised in last year’s State of the Union, will see “a child’s success be determined not by the zip code she lives in, but by the strength of her work, and the scope of her dreams.”

These five “Promise Zones,” especially economically challenged areas will not receive handouts or new money, but will instead receive government aid in accessing existing resources in a more effective manner, according to The Times.

President Obama hopes to expand to 20 Promise Zones by the time he leaves office.
